Good day! Here we are 🐩 already graduates of your National School of Service Dog Training. Our puppy joined your 'first-grade' class without any socialization experience or knowledge of commands. Thanks to the trainers’ extensive knowledge, attention, and individualized approach to every dog (the dogs were of different breeds and ages), they taught our puppy how to properly follow commands, behave in social environments, and provided a lot of useful information that we still apply today. As you may know, mixed breeds can be challenging, especially with an owner who initially didn’t understand her well. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ)
Currently, there are only a limited number of organizations in Europe that genuinely provide guide dog training in accordance with the requirements necessary to ensure effective support for visually impaired individuals in the realities of everyday life. Most declared programs and individual trainers focus on demonstrational formats of training, aimed at performing exercises under exhibition or competition conditions. Such methods do not establish in the dog the practical skills required for daily navigation and safe movement of a blind person in urban and social environments. NSSDT is among the few institutions that implements a full training cycle: from selective breeding and early socialization of puppies to specialized training conducted in compliance with international standards applicable to guide dogs. The outcome of the program is a dog fully capable of performing guiding functions in real conditions, resilient to stress factors, able to make independent decisions in critical situations, and ensuring the owner’s safety, mobility, and social integration.
The course is designed both for individuals with total vision loss and for those with significant impairments. The program is adapted to the specific needs of the owner.
Comprehensive preparation lasts from 9 to 12 months. This period is required to consolidate the full range of skills and bring them to an automated level.
We select puppies from our own kennels and raise them specifically for guide work. This ensures stable temperament and the appropriate character traits.
Before being handed over to the owner, the dog undergoes a final certification in which he demonstrates all key skills: route guidance, stopping at obstacles, object indication, potential risk control, and composure in urban environments.
The course provides training not only for the dog but also for the owner. Instructors will teach how to interact correctly with the guide dog to establish full mutual understanding.
